About Blindside
Operating since 2004, Blindside is a not-for-profit, artist-run space based in the Nicholas Building in Naarm/Melbourne’s CBD. Blindside operates as a critical space for artists, writers and curators, encouraging the development and presentation of experimental and bold artwork and critical dialogue through its annual program of exhibitions, events, satellite and offsite projects.
Funded through government grants, philanthropic donations from the community and an annual artwork fundraiser, Blindside is run by two part-time staff members, a volunteer Board and a committee of Artistic Directors.
Sponsorship Coordinator Role
The Sponsorship Coordinator is responsible for identifying, developing and maintaining partnerships and sponsorship opportunities that support Blindside’s programs and operations. Working closely with the Chair and Board, and more specifically the Development team, the Sponsorship Coordinator helps build relationships with businesses, community organisations and philanthropic partners to secure financial and in-kind support.
Key Accountabilities
Research and identify potential sponsorship partners across corporate, philanthropic and community sectors.
Develop and implement a sponsorship strategy aligned with Blindside’s Strategic Plan and program objectives.
Prepare tailored sponsorship proposals and partnership packages, in consultation with the Board.
Manage the relationship cycle with sponsors, including prospecting, negotiation, agreements, activation and reporting.
Maintain and update a database of current and potential sponsors and partners.
Ensure maintenance of drinks sponsorship to support the yearly program of exhibitions and events.
Ensure appropriate recognition of sponsors across Blindside’s communications and events, in collaboration with the Media Coordinator and Marketing Coordinator.
Work collaboratively with Board members to develop new revenue streams through sponsorship and partnership initiatives.
Support the Fundraising and Grants Coordinators in aligning sponsorship efforts with other income-generating activities.
Work collaboratively with the Development Team (Development Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator and Sponsorship Coordinator) to meet collective goals.
General Member Accountabilities
Be aware of Blindside’s Strategic Plan and independently work toward specified goals in your specialised role.
Have a working knowledge of the 2015 Blindside Incorporated Rules.
Prepare for and actively participate in monthly Board meetings.
Attend at least 9 of the 11 regular Board meetings each year, and be present at the Annual General Meeting. Attend strategic planning meetings as required.
Commit to running the bar at exhibition openings (5.30–8.00 pm on a Thursday night) and/or public programming events every 6–8 weeks as required.
Participate in working bees as required. As a volunteer-run organisation, all Board members are expected to pitch in.
Contribute at least 15 hours per month toward assisting Blindside’s development and management.
Assist the Chair, Fundraising and Development Coordinators with relevant applications and reports as needed.
Make a serious commitment to actively participate in Blindside’s annual program of events.
Keep informed of current developments, issues and concerns in the contemporary arts sector and have an understanding of and/or experience in the contemporary arts sector.
