B-SIDE SHOP: Buy Some Stock! Artist Editions 2024
Matilda Davis, James Nguyen
10 Nov–31 Dec 2024
In the fifth year of Blindside's commissioned Artist-Editions, we are thrilled to present a limited-edition of totes and stickers by Naarm/Melbourne artists Matilda Davis and James Nguyen.
Exclusive to Blindside!
Matilda Davis creates images imbued with peculiar characters, latent narratives and cosmological reckonings. Observations of science, art history, nature and objects create molten imagery that forms psychological landscapes in episodic sections. Her focus is both micro and macro. Mise en scenes are painstakingly rendered and placed in fantastical landscapes that pulse with connection to the universe and the self. Matilda Davis is represented by FUTURES.
James Nguyen is based in Murrumbeena, where the Boyds once ran their pottery studios. Nguyen’s work engages with reMatriation, decolonial thinking and language-brokering. He makes memes, performances, film, sculpture etc, drawing attention to the diasporic absurd.
The latest edition follows 2023's photo prints from J Davies, Amos Gebhardt, and Shea Kirk; the wearable art of 2022 in the form of aprons designed by Scotty So, Katie West and HeeJoon Youn; 2021's art caps designed by Sanja Pahoki, Jason Phu and Stanislava Pinchuk, and in 2020 the life-changing puzzles by Atong Atem, Matthew Harris and Honey Long & Prue Stent.
