Being There

Mia Middleton

14 Nov–1 Dec 2018

Being There presented works which explored the dichotomous states of presence and absence, surface and void. Disembodied biological forms occupied the gallery space, creating a sparse and surreal tableau that alluded to the rites and rituals of place making in contemporary society. In particular, the works unpacked synthetic and utopic environments by breaking apart and re-purposing the veneers that typify them.

This program takes place on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We recognise that sovereignty was never ceded - this land is stolen land. We pay respects to Wurundjeri Elders, past, present and emerging, to the Elders from other communities and to any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders who might encounter or participate in the program.
