This project borrows from the ‘what3words’ system, a geo-locational method that assigns three unique words to every three-square metre of the globe. Gravitating toward one of the three words for a randomly selected square within the vicinity of the gallery, each artist spins off from its origin, using the word as a conceptual backbone. The works oscillate between precision and looseness, pattern seeking and abstraction, chaos and control. By interpretation and association of each word, the works move through language to arrive at the visual.

This program takes place on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We recognise that sovereignty was never ceded - this land is stolen land. We pay respects to Wurundjeri Elders, past, present and emerging, to the Elders from other communities and to any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders who might encounter or participate in the program.
